Highlights
Unique hybrid design integrates Mainframe, POWER7® and IBM System x® technologies in a single unified, centrally managed system. Designed for data and right-sized as an entry level hybrid mainframe server with increased flexibility, scalability and performance in a lower cost package, now starting under $75K USD (pricing may vary by country).1 Industry-leading virtualization, security, resiliency, and connectivity technologies cost-effectively packaged as a midrange enterprise solution Up to 18 percent performance improvement per core and up to 12 percent more capacity within the same energy footprint as the z10 BC2 Consolidate an average of 30 distributed servers or more on a single core, or an average of 300 in a single footprint, delivering a virtual Linux server.

IBM® DB2® 10 for z/OS

In today's business and economic environment, the challenge for IT is clear: improve operational efficiencies, reduce costs, and adapt quickly to support business growth -- all without sacrificing the resiliency required for today's demanding business requirements. DB2 for z/OS continues to be the undisputed leader in total system availability, scalability, security, and reliability at the lowest cost per transaction. DB2 10 for z/OS continues to build on these formidable capabilities of DB2 9 for z/OS, and delivers innovations in these key areas: Improved operational efficiency for "out-of-the-box" DB2 CPU savings DB2 10 delivers great value by reducing CPU usage. IBM's internal testing and early beta customer results revealed that, depending on the specific workload, customers could achieve out-of-the-box DB2 CPU savings of up to 5% - 10% for traditional workloads and up to 20% for specific workloads; when compared to running the same workloads on DB2 9. DB2 reduces its CPU usage by optimizing processor times and memory access, leveraging the latest processor improvements, larger amounts of memory, and z/OS enhancements. Improved scalability and virtual storage constraint relief can add to the savings. Continued productivity improvements for database and systems administrators can drive even more savings.
